PCN Networking Event

Preston Health and Wellbeing Partnership
The next meeting of the above body will take place next Monday, September 9th and Tony Dawber will be in attendance on behalf of PCN.
A wide variety of topics will be discussed and if there is any health and wellbeing issue you would particularly like to be raised, please email tonyd@prestoncn.org and he will do his best to assist.
Women’s Health Project
Women’s health is an issue we all know is a very important one and the Healthwatch UK group have launched a project to research the experiences of women and what their health priorities are.
The ‘Talk to Us’ project will gather information through September and October then move on to establishing the top three priorities from the information gathered and examine those issues further.
The group want to hear from as many women as possible to ensure the effectiveness of the project and the input of any groups or individuals would be greatly appreciated.

Invest in Youth
The above programme involves a range of support available for young people aged 14 to 24 who live in Preston, are not in work and not actively looking for a job.
Operated by Beanstalk Employment and Skills, the aim is for these youngsters to take steps towards their career goals.
Resilience Fund Grants
The Greater Together Foundation Community Resilience Fund is available to support Great Places’ customers and the local community with the cost-of-living crisis.

Crime Commissioner’s Community Fund
The Police and Crime Commissioner has now opened his community fund to applications.
The Commissioner welcomes applications from Community Safety Partnerships, local organisations, charities, community groups and Parish and Town Councils for short term intervention projects that have a specific focus on preventing crime and anti-social behaviour.
The maximum amount which can be applied for is £5,000 and the deadline is 8.30am on Monday, September 23rd.

Pathway Enterprise Development Grants Programme
The Inclusive North group has partnered with the Pathway Fund to deliver a grant award programme aimed at minoritised led social sector organisation across Lancashire.
The grants are aimed at assisting these groups in developing enterprise-based solutions to communities most impacted by cost of living issues.
The minimum amount is £12,000 and maximum grant £15,000 and application form and guidance is available via this link

Inclusive North
Inclusive North are recruiting volunteers aged 10-20 for their current national youth violence reduction project. The project is youth-led with young people carrying out research and delivering social action projects in local communities. They are looking for 15 volunteers (Changemakers) to help with delivery of the social action in Preston and surrounding areas.
Money Saving Week – Citizens Advice
The week starting 9th September is Money Saving Week. To help everyone make the most of it, Citizens Advice Preston, in partnership with Yorkshire Building Society, has put together a fantastic event focusing on energy awareness and practical tips to help you save money.
This event is open to everyone, with special support available for those facing digital or financial challenges. Whether you’re looking for ways to cut down on energy costs or just want some handy money-saving tips, this event is for you! There will be complimentary snacks and drinks available while you explore simple and effective ways to save. Please see attached, a leaflet with more details.
Caritas Care
The above group are running their regular adoption and fostering information events later this month. The fostering information event is being held on September 9th at 7pm online. You can register for this event here. Their online adoption event is on September 13th and you can register for this here. At these information events, you will meet some of the incredible team who will talk to you about Caritas Care, the process and the support you will receive throughout your fostering or adoption journey. They will be available to ask any questions you have and put your mind at ease.
BSL – Lady in Red
Please find attached details for a British Sign Language screening of Lady in Red at Deafway Social Hub, Brockholes Brow, Preston PR1 5BB, on Tuesday 10th September 1:30pm. It’s a free event and no booking required.
This film explores domestic violence and contains strong language. It lasts 40 minutes and is followed by an after show discussion. Not suitable for children.

Suicide Prevention Event
A reminder that our colleagues at the Preston Wellfest Network have organised a Suicide Prevention event which will take place in the plaza at Preston Bus Station this Saturday, September 7th.

Health and Wellbeing Event
It’s a busy time for Preston Wellfest as they are also hosting their annual Health and Wellbeing event which takes place at The Flag Market from 10.30am-3.30pm on Saturday, October 5th.
The event is always held around the time of World Mental Health Day and aims to encourage people to look after both their physical and mental wellbeing.
This year promises to be better than ever with lots of stalls from local organisations and a programme of entertainment that includes Preston People’s Choir, The Preston Concert Band and The Worldwise Samba Drummers amongst others.
Immigration Surgery
The Home Office Immigration Enforcement Team are hosting a surgery at Preston Muslim Forum this Friday, September 6th from 9.30am-Noon.
The event offers a chance for people to speak directly to the team in a trusted environment with no fear of arrest and explore options for support and provide information.
Preston Muslim Forum is based at the rear of 158 Castleton Road and there’s no need to make an appointment. Just turn up on the day.
Preston Volunteers Managers’ Forum
Do you work with volunteers and would like to catch up on all things volunteering and share advice and information?
The above is a great place to do that and the next meeting takes place from 10am-Noon on Wednesday, September 18th at Preston Masonic Hall.

Health Literacy Classes
Our friends at The Pukar Disability Centre are hosting Health Literacy classes aimed at those who have English as their second or additional language.
The classes take place each Monday from September 9th to September 23rd from 9.30am-11.30am on each day.

Pukar are also hosting a short course on printmaking techniques on Friday, September 20th and 27th.
